Television’s darling of the masa, Bea Alonzo, admits to some physical flaws.

“Ang mata ko kasi lumulubog at nangingitim. That’s my problem. So I put ice on my eyes. My eyes are weird. If I don’t get enough sleep, the area around my eyes gets dark. If I sleep too long, it gets sore and dry. When this happens, I put milk and honey all over my face.”

Bea hardly had any decent sleep a few months ago. She says she often worked till 12 midnight and on some days up to two o’clock in the morning – five days a week. For example, she says, when she was filming Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay, she only had one to three hours of sleep. “Heavy drama kasi kaya matagal ang setup.”

To make things work, another movie, My First Romance, was running after a play date. “I was working everyday. I went home (to Taguig) and took a bath or I didn’t go home at all. I just used one of ABS-CBN’s bathrooms, then proceeded to the location.”

That has since changed.

Bea, who’s turning 17 on October 17, says the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has enforced a new regulation granting talents 17 years old and below a cutoff working time.

Tess del Rosario, DOLE senior labor employer officer, says: “Young workers are allowed to work eight hours at any given day provided it does not exceed 40 hours a week.”

“The cutoff was a big help,” says Bea. “Now I can sleep six to eight hours every day.”

A much-deserved rest for busy Bea Alonzo.

Bea Alonzo’s personal style is plain and ordinary.

“I’m not a fashionista because I don’t have the confidence to dress up. In terms of fashion, mas gusto kong maging simple. Ayaw ko ng borloloy kasi feeling ko, baka maging baduy ako.”

For her hair, there’s a need for Bea to have hair treatment once a week. Why?

“Kawawa talaga ang buhok ko, araw-araw bino-blower.”

For example she says, when she appears in the Sunday variety show “ASAP,” her hair is curled. When she tapes for the soap opera “It Might Be You,” her hair is straightened.

There’s another problem. “Madaling pumuti ang buhok ko like my mom. So nag-pa-pa-touch up ako ng hair pero same color lang. Ayaw kong magpa-iba ng color.”
