Direk Laurenti Dyogi refuses to claim sole credit for the discovery of the now very popular team-up of John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo.
"In fairness," he said, "sina Charo (Santos-Concio), Malou (Santos) at Direk Olive (Lamasan) ang unang naka-discover ng kakaibang chemistry ng dalawa. They called my attention to it. Kung baga, I helped enhance the team-up."
Direk Lauren first directed the duo in the teleserye, "Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay," on ABS-CBN. He is now directing them in the soon-to-be released "Now That I Have You."
"When I was directing them in 'Kay Tagal...,' they were not as comfortable as they are now," Direk Lauren noted. "Siguro, because at that time, John Lloyd was still going steady with Ciara Sotto. Puwedeng naging maingat si John Lloyd dahil ayaw niyang magtampo si Ciara. Si Bea naman, takot na baka pagselosan siya ni Ciara.
"Kaya natuwa ako when while we were filming 'Now That I Have You,' they seem closer to each other. Kung dati ni cellphone number nila ay 'di nila alam, ngayon they would call on each other even for the most trivial matter.
"Nagtutuksuhan na rin sila sa set," he revealed.
John Lloyd for his part admitted that Bea played a part in his recovery after his break-up with Ciara. "Magaling siyang listener. And all I needed naman at that point in time pagkatapos naming mag-break ni Ciara was somebody who would listen to me sa kung anu-ano nabasa lang na sinasabi ko," said John Lloyd.
"Isa iyan sa mga assets ko. Mahilig akong makinig," said Bea.

John Lloyd and Bea are both breadwinners. They are both happy that because of their income as TV and movie stars, they are able to give their parents a comfortable life.
"Haping-hapi ako kapag nakikita ko ang mommy ko enjoying buying the things na kailangan niya," related Bea. "Noon kasing I wasn't earning as much, whatever little money we had, my parents had to budget para sa pag-a-aral namin ng kapatid ko."
To date, Bea considers the cellphone she is using her biggest indulgence.
"Kung hindi ako nag-artista," she told us, "wala pa siguro akong cellphone. Kung dati I would consider it a luxury ang nagkaroon ng cellphone. Pero kapag isang artista ka, cellphone is a necessity."
"Now that I Have You," produced by Star Cinema, will have a premiere tomorrow, Tuesday, Aug. 10, at the Cinema 10 Megamall.
